K-12 School Counseling Lessons

Each year, our school counselors offer our students a range of lessons to help them achieve their goals, pursue their interests, and manage their lifelong learning. To this end, we promote access to equitable, rigorous educational opportunities, develop the knowledge and skills necessary for college and career readiness, and support personal and social growth for all students. This is the mission of our school counseling department.

During the 2022-2023 school year, our K-12 counselors participated in a year-long program review designed to further strengthen the department. Through this study, they identified goals and the following vision and philosophy. You can read the entire In-Depth Program Review Report here.

An important aspect of our school counseling program is the annual lessons offered to all students. These lessons range in topics from career education to academic to personal to social/emotional growth. Linked here is the list of lessons and an overview of each of the lessons (by grade level).

This informational resource was designed to provide our families with opportunities to further review the planned learning activities. We are excited to work with you to help your child pursue his or her unique path.

Kindergarten

The Pine-Richland School Board approved an opt-in model for kindergarten students to receive school counseling lessons for the 2026-2027 school year.

Parents who would like their kindergartner(s) to participate in the school counseling lessons will need to opt each child in individually through the Sapphire Community Portal.

We would appreciate all kindergarten families completing the form indicating their interest so that we can plan accordingly. Families not completing the form will receive additional communications to ensure a selection of opting in or declining is recorded for each child, prior to the lessons starting.

Instructions

  • Log into Sapphire.
  • Go to My Backpack, then Student Data Forms.
  • Click on Forms Awaiting Completion.
  • The School Counseling Opt-In Form will be listed along with the Annual Acknowledgement Form.
  • You may now choose to opt your child into all lessons for the 2026-2027 school year. Selecting No will give you an option to opt in to selected lessons.

Grades 1-12

School counseling lessons for grades 1-12 use an opt-out model. If you would like to opt your child out of one or more of the lessons (with the exception of required lessons linked to Career Education and Work Standards), please complete this form. The form must be completed for each child whom you wish to opt out no later than September 4

Students opting out of one or more lessons will work with their school administrators and counselors to determine appropriate alternative activities. Please contact your child’s school counselor if you have any additional questions.
