RAMS Way Reminders & Lessons
Our faculty and staff work together to create a school climate where every student succeeds. We are consistent with our practices and resources which lead to our successes centered on students’ achievements. During the school year, we will continue to implement and monitor our school-wide positive behavioral interventions and supports called RAMS Way to target student and family needs.
Respectful, Accountable, Motivated, and Safe (RAMS) behaviors are learned, practiced, and expected from our youngest learners to our graduating seniors in Pine-Richland School District. Both formal and informal lessons, along with modeling, are strong practices across each of our grade levels at Hance Elementary School.
All students share a common RAMS Way vocabulary and are guided through expected behaviors specific to respect and what it looks like inside the classroom and outside of the classroom. They learn how their words can build someone up with positivity or offend someone with hurtful name-calling. Students receive positive praise to reinforce their accountable actions such as cleaning up after themselves in the cafeteria. Examples of motivated behaviors include a child’s readiness to begin learning when the teacher introduces the lesson.
When a child does not demonstrate RAMS Way expected behaviors, consequences are discussed between the teacher and parents/guardians, and principal. Reteaching and reflection align with the context of the behaviors and supports needed. Inappropriate language, teasing, or actions impeding another student’s space are not healthy problem-solving strategies. Together, our role is to enable our students to develop their capacity to make good choices through their positive words and actions.
